Virology, Tissue Culture and Immunology

This section includes serology techniques, Newcastle Disease Virus isolation and its propagation. In serology, we already use Enzyme Linked Immuno Assay (ELISA) to determine the titer of virus such as Newcastle Disease Virus and bacteria, for example, Mycoplasma gallisepticum. Hence, such cases can be diagnosed from small amount of blood samples from the suspected falcons. Other potential tests in serology are under the process of development in this facility.
Viruses and bacteria and other large protein molecules act as antigens and initiate the production of antibodies and either such reactions or their products could be analyzed in the serum, plasma, or tissue samples immunologically. This section has appropriate equipment and tools for carrying out tests to quantify immunologic reactions significant to the presence of a particular virus, bacteria or fungi.

Moreover, this section can also identify live and dead cell and gender of falcons immunologically using a special stain. The status of immune system to a particular disease is also checked using plasma electrophoresis quantification of different blood proteins such as albumin and various globulins.

The virology, tissue culture and immunology section is partly functional while the former two are still under development for full-fledged functionality.
